Gwalior, Nov 21, 2023 : In a dramatic turn of events, a 19-year-old girl, who was abducted by two masked men on a motorbike in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has been successfully rescued by the police. The abduction, caught on video at a bus stand and widely circulated on social media, prompted swift action by law enforcement.

The young woman, a resident of Bhind, was abducted as she disembarked from a bus at the Jhansi Road Bus Stand near Gwalior. In the video, one masked man swiftly lifted her onto a waiting bike, while the other, also masked, drove away from the scene.

The police, acting promptly on the incident, managed to locate and rescue the victim from a lodge in Guna district. One of the accused has been apprehended in the Lahar area of Bhind district, according to Gwalior SP Rajesh Singh Chandel. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The larger context of missing persons, especially women and girls, in Madhya Pradesh adds a layer of concern to this incident. The state has consistently reported the highest number of missing women and girls in the country, according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data. Between 2019 and 2021, nearly two lakh women and girls went missing in Madhya Pradesh.

In 2022 alone, a Right To Information (RTI) report from the NGO Child Rights and You (CRY) revealed that 32 children went missing every day in Madhya Pradesh, with 75 percent of them being girls. The successful rescue of the abducted 19-year-old offers a glimmer of hope amid the concerning trend of missing persons in the state.
